Having recently had the privilege to be able to volunteer for the whole period of the George Town Festival for the first time, I had the opportunity to get a new perspective on the event.   One insight was on communications. In particular for the event locations. It should never be assumed that the event location is sufficient for the event attendees to find the location. This was particularly true for one location which is in a prominent landmark in Penang.  There were 3 distinct routes to get to the auditorium, where the event was going to be taking place. However, some of the options were time sensitive, so depending on what time the show was taking place, the route options may not be available at that time. Normal signage was lacking, so we had to supplement the signage with our posters, which were on the small side. These needed additional creative additions and combinations to be visible. My post yesterday discussed the learnings that we could obtain from our drive to work. Here are a few more observations that are along the same topic. Each project is like a journey. When you start your journey, you will have a few decision points in your journey which will determine how fast you will be able to reach your destination. Similarly there are several decision points when the project starts. Existing Resources Some of the decision points have been made earlier for example the car you are driving and the location of your residence so you will need to work within these as your starting point. In a project persepective, your resources may also already be pre-determined by decisions made earlier depending on the type of project eg. the number of team members and their skill sets, hardware, software etc. Timing to start The first decision point will be the time to start your journey.
